Workshops
Workshop on Financial Modelling by Mr. Tarun Bothra on 1st, 13th,14th November 2025
The Symbiosis School of Banking and Finance conducted an intensive Financial Modelling workshop by Mr. Tarun Bothra, which translated core finance theory into hands-on financial modelling practice in line with industry expectations. The session began with how data should be structured and presented in a professional model - separating inputs, workings, and outputs so that assumptions are transparent and decision-makers can quickly interpret results. This approach helped us appreciate that a good model is not just numerically accurate, but also clean, readable, and audit-friendly.
A key learning area was building and linking the three financial statements - Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement - so that a single change in assumptions (like revenue growth or capex) automatically updates the entire model. Sir demonstrated how to construct depreciation schedules in Excel and link them to the statements, reinforcing the idea that formulas, not hard-coded numbers, should drive outputs. The next segment bridged our capital budgeting concepts with real-life cash flow modelling, where we learned to derive project and free cash flows by adjusting for non-cash items, working capital changes, and capital expenditure.
Workshop on Crafting Inpactful Responses in Professional Pathways by Ms. Paromita Das on 1st November 2025
An engaging session on “Crafting Impactful Responses in Professional Pathways” by Ms. Paromita Das was conducted by Symbiosis School of Banking and Finance, focused on Personal Effectiveness and mastering etiquette for organizational excellence. The workshop emphasized that technical knowledge alone is not sufficient in the BFSI sector; how one communicates, responds, and carries oneself often determines credibility and career progression. Ms. Das highlighted that every interaction, which can be emails, meetings, interviews, or client calls, is an opportunity to build or dilute one’s professional brand.
A key learning area was communication etiquette. The session covered structuring clear and concise responses, active listening, and responding thoughtfully rather than reactively, especially in high-pressure situations. Importance was given to tone, body language, and non- verbal cues, along with professional email and WhatsApp etiquette commonly used in corporate communication. Another important aspect was behavioural etiquette in formal settings - punctuality, dressing appropriately, participating respectfully in group discussions, and maintaining professionalism on social media. Through examples, Ms. Das demonstrated how empathy, respect, and clarity can transform difficult conversations and strengthen workplace relationships.
Workshop on Nvivo Software by Mr. Apoorva Joshi on 5th November 2025
The Symbiosis School of Banking and Finance conducted an insightful session on NVivo by Mr. Apoorva Joshi, focused on using technology to strengthen research and data analysis skills. The workshop introduced NVivo as a powerful qualitative data analysis software that helps researchers systematically work with interviews, surveys, open-ended responses, documents, and other unstructured data. Mr. Joshi began by explaining where NVivo fits in the research process, especially for dissertations, projects, and industry studies where themes, patterns, and insights need to be derived from large volumes of textual or multimedia data.
A key part of the session was a practical walkthrough of the NVivo interface and core features. We learned how to create a project, import different data formats, and organize material using nodes, cases, and classifications. The session demonstrated coding techniques to tag important ideas, build themes, and connect concepts, thereby transforming raw text into structured, analyzable information. Visual tools such as word clouds, charts, and query functions were also showcased to highlight relationships, frequently occurring terms, and sentiment trends. The NVivo workshop blended conceptual understanding of qualitative research with real-time software practice, helping us see how technology can make our academic and industry projects more rigorous, transparent, and insightful.
Workshop on Demystifying the Financial Statement of BFSI by Ms. Saumya Agarwal on 8th November 2025
The Symbiosis School of Banking and Finance conducted an insightful session on “Demystifying Financial Statements of BFSI” by Ms. Saumya Agarwal, focused on understanding how the financials of banks differ from those of non‑financial companies. The session began with the basic structure of financial statements for corporations - Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement. Then, showed how these formats change when the business model is banking or financial services. Special attention was given to how banks treat deposits and borrowings as core liabilities, loans and investments as main assets, and how interest income, interest expense, and provisions drive profitability differently from a regular manufacturing or services company.
A major learning area was the interpretation and analysis of these statements. Ms. Agarwal explained key banking metrics such as net interest margin, cost of funds, yield on advances, non‑interest income, and provisioning for NPAs, and contrasted them with traditional ratios like margins, leverage, and liquidity used for companies. Through examples and discussions, we saw how the same ratio (for example, debt-equity or ROA) can have a very different meaning in a bank versus a non‑bank firm. The session also introduced basic tools of analysis - trend analysis, common‑size statements, and ratio analysis to evaluate performance, asset quality, and capital adequacy.
Overall, the workshop bridged classroom accounting concepts with the specific realities of BFSI balance sheets, helping us read annual reports of banks and companies more confidently. It reinforced that, as future finance professionals, we must not only know “how” to read numbers but also “why” those numbers behave differently across banking and non‑banking businesses.
Workshop on Sales and Marketing by Mr. Sujeet Shindhe on 10th -11th November 2025
The Symbiosis School of Banking and Finance conducted a Sales and Marketing workshop by Mr. Sujeet Shindhe. It gave an experiential session that connected BFSI concepts with real-life selling situations. The opening team activity, where we had to keep a team name, worked under the Warcraft theme that made us think like frontline salespeople designing product and service offerings for specific customer segments. We explored a wide range of financial solutions such as mutual funds, NPS, credit cards, insurance, PMS, AIFs, and innovative options like “Buy Now Pay Later,” social impact funds, pet insurance, and cybersecurity-related services. This showed how sales success depends on matching each product to a clear customer need rather than pushing a generic bouquet.
A second major learning area was customer metrics and relationship deepening. Concepts like Share of Wallet, Net Promoter Score, Lifetime Value, and cross-sell ratio highlighted the shift from one-time transactions to long-term value creation. The workshop also contrasted transactional selling with consultative selling, stressing that a Relationship Manager must diagnose problems, listen empathetically, and provide customized solutions. Role plays demonstrated the importance of understanding context - for example, a loan taken for a daughter’s education or marriage, and reinforced that reputation and trust are more valuable than closing a single deal. Overall, the session blended products, data-driven insights, soft skills, ethics, and career perspective, giving a holistic view of what effective sales and relationship management in the BFSI sector really mean.
Workshop on AAFM Certification in Cybersecurity Fundamentals and Fintech Fundamentals by Mr. Shreekant Kulkarni on 24th-25th November 2025

On Day 1, the focus was on cybersecurity foundations and real-world threats. The session explained common cyber scams and attack vectors such as phishing, identity theft, card fraud, malware, and social engineering, highlighting how these exploit human behaviour as much as technology. Practical discussions on password hygiene, multi-factor authentication, secure browsing, safe use of UPI and digital payments, and the importance of regular updates and vigilance equipped us with simple but powerful prevention strategies that can be applied both personally and in banking environments.
Day 2 shifted to Fintech Fundamentals, connecting digital threats with the rapidly evolving financial technology landscape. We were introduced to key fintech concepts and platforms, including blockchain-based assets like Bitcoin, its origin story, volatility, and the mechanics of how it is traded on exchanges. The session also covered emerging areas such as NFT marketplaces like OpenSea, and useful global data resources, including websites that allow comparison of macro indicators like GDP across countries. This helped us appreciate how technology, data, and finance intersect in modern financial markets.
Overall, the two-day certification demystified both cybersecurity and fintech, reinforcing that responsible innovation in BFSI requires understanding digital risks as well as the new tools and platforms reshaping finance.

The Symbiosis School of Banking and Finance conducted an enriching workshop on “Blockchain and its Application in Finance” by Dr. Pawan Jain. The session aimed for an in- depth understanding of blockchain, moving it beyond a buzzword to a foundational technology for the future of BFSI. Dr. Jain began by explaining core concepts such as distributed ledgers, blocks, hashing, consensus mechanisms, and immutability. This helped us understand why blockchain is considered highly secure and tamper‑resistant, and how it differs from traditional centralized databases used by banks and financial institutions.
A key focus area was the practical application of blockchain in finance. The session explored use cases such as cross‑border payments, real‑time settlement, trade finance, smart contracts, and tokenization of assets, showing how blockchain can reduce intermediaries, cut transaction costs, and increase transparency and speed. Dr. Jain also linked blockchain to cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currencies, clarifying that while crypto is one application, the underlying technology has far wider relevance for compliance, KYC, audit trails, and risk management in BFSI. The workshop blended technology fundamentals with real-world financial applications, giving a holistic view of how blockchain can reshape banking operations, product design, and customer experience. It reinforced that, as future finance professionals, understanding blockchain is no longer optional, but it is essential for participating in and leading the next wave of financial innovation.
